In order to be an effective leader you must be an effective communicator. With all the new communication technologies that our world now has I think we are loosing the ability to understand the non-verbal queue. I feel the reason this is happening is that we don’t communicate face to face as much anymore with cell phones that double as internet navigators and notebook computer that go everywhere with us, we can keep up with one another but we really don’t keep in touch.
In my last job I worked with people how had developmental delays some of them could not communicate verbally so I had to learn how to read what they where telling me through their body language. A couple of times I was told by co-workers that that there was no way this one client had said all of what I said he said until they worked with him. I really believe that you learn more about people by seeing what they are saying. This is one of the main reasons why I don’t like communicating in such an impersonal way, such as blogging. I realize that you do get some feedback using this medium but you can’t see facial expression of the reader and the reader can’t see if the writer is laughing or not.
